The VL Turbo would without a doubt be one of the biggest cult cars in Australia, attracting a massive following of revheads from all cultural backgrounds that all have a thirst for the same thing, boost. It’s easy to see why the VL is so liked. Smooth flowing lines, small light body with large engine bay and turbo engine available from factory. All these things help add to the VL’s immense appeal. This next Car of the Week winner is no stranger to scene of the VL, and just so happens to own one very fine example.

Darren’s Wyndup features a hot Burgundy over Silver respray with not so much of a hint of a body kit. As you had probably guest by now, the engine is far from what had originally rolled out of the Holden manufacturing plant back in 1987. The old RB30 had a full rebuild with the compression being set at a nice 7.5:1. A Tighe cam was chosen to make it all work with a adjustable Romac cam gear in place for some easy tweaking. No stock turbo here folks, just the ever popular Garrett GT35/40 with a 0.82 rear. All this added up to a very healthy 379rwhp being transferred through the Stage II Jatco 4-speed auto.

Rolling on polished FR19 Simmons, this awesome looking machine is well and truly a deserving winner of this Car of the Week.
