Cruise for Charity NSW – Done!

Category: Street Commodores

Well, the dust has settled for what was another Cruise for Charity and it was no doubt a massive winner for the Startlight Foundation. Just over $40,000 was pocketed from both the start and cruise finish with car numbers entering the 900’s.

Over 1,000 Commodores swarmed upon the meeting point at Homebush which turned into more of a mobile car show than a charity event with volunteers kept run off their feet!

The day ran smoothly and considering the volume of cars attended the cruise, around only 1% of cruisers decided to prove that their Commodore could in fact do a burnout much to the disgust of fellow cruisers.

A massive thank you goes out to all the cruise attendees and donators, as well as all Cruise for Charity volunteers.

Don’t forget to send your photos through for your chance to get your photography immortalized in print, not to mention the bragging rights with your mates!

This weekend we head to sunny Perth and if last year is anything to go by, we are in for another real treat.

Media blamed for declining six-cylinder sales

Category: Misc
Posted: 2008-07-25 03:11

Motorists are starting to point the finger at the media for their constant assault on the six-cylinder market segment and their impacts on the environment.

Internet, print and multimedia articles have slammed the use of the six-cylinder family car and labeled them as ‘gas guzzlers’ compared to smaller, less powerful cars.

Headlines such as NEWS.com.au’s ‘Six cylinders emerge as the latest dud buy’ have given readers the impression that the six cylinders cars days are strictly numbered.

In the article, the AU Falcon was slammed for it’s poor resale value and inability to sell quickly on the used car market.

With constant negative media attention the six-bangers are receiving, many motorists believe that the down turn in sales could be blamed partly on the negative media attention.

A recent study by the NRMA has shown that some larger cars have cost only a mere $11 a week more to run due to their size, something which to some people is a small price to pay for an increased level of occupant safety and comfort.

More ZR-1 videos break the surface

Category: Misc
Posted: 2008-07-25 00:35

GM have embargoed all media impressions of the ZR-1 until August 20th, so that means until that time all we can really do is watch journalists drive the wheels of them and slide ‘em around the twisties.

Not that it’s entertaining mind you, it’s a great watch, but what we also what to know is what they think of it. How does it steer, how does it go, and hoe does it rate on a world performance car scale.

Two YouTube videos have surfaced with the ZR-1 cutting laps of GM’s test facility in Milford.

Click HERE for Jim Mero’s lap of the track, or click HERE to see 0-60 Magazine’s test pilot having a steer around the same track.

W427 is off the leash!

Category: Holden News

Finally, the W427 has breathed its first taste of fresh air as HSV have announced the official unveiling of the $155k Supercar.

New media photos have also be released which show the HSV in other colours other than Panorama Silver, more to the point, we think the W427 looks killer in the red despite the deep roots the silver has with HSV and Tom Walkinshaw.

The W427 has been confirmed to be built in limited numbers, 427 to be exact, and will feature the awesome 375kW Z06 sourced 7-litre V8 which was used in the pre-production versions that teased the public some months ago.

The W427 also offers a full three year, 100,000km warranty to boot so you can be assured that HSV did some extensive work to the driveline to cope with the 640nm of torque available at the right foot.

The final price, inclusive of the new Luxury Car Tax regime, will be $155,500 which puts me fair out of the race to have one of these puppies parked in my drive way.

Rumor mill: Volt SS

Category: GM News
Posted: 2008-07-23 05:41

You have to love the internet. Since it’s birth many moons ago, the WWW has bought us some of the juiciest rumors to ever pass around via e-mails and instant messaging. One such rumor that has been doing the rounds lately is that Chevrolet are going to use 1.4-litre turbocharged donks in their fuel miser Volt, possibly sparking interest in a semi-performance Volt.

One can help but ponder that a Volt SS would be about as popular as a TRD Prius, but according to some industry analysts, it actually makes perfect financial sense. The 1.4-litre boosted power plant will be featured in the Chevy Cruze which is making its debut around the same type as the Volt and it will also be lying on the same Delta platform as the Cruze, making for even more cost savings.

GM even seem to believe that the 1.4-litre when combined with the electric motor system will still achieve an awesome 50 mpg that was originally expected out of the Volt, but making for quite the spirited drive thanks to instant engine torque and a boosted top end thanks to a bit of petrol power.
