28/11/06 Lillie scores Top 10 and Podium finish for LPGAS1 |
It was a weekend of full on racing for Team LPGAS1 driver Dean Lillie as he recorded a Top 10 finish in the V8 Brute series, and a Podium finish win the Australian Performance Car Championship.
Lillie piloted his HSV GTS to victory in the Performance Car series just a fortnight ago at Symmons Plains, and proved his consistency by setting the 3rd fastest time in practice, and then backing that up by qualifying 3rd on the grid. With setup problems hindering performance in Race 1, it would be Races 2 and 3 where Lillie would make up ground and finish 3rd and 2nd places respectively.
Lillie then had to jump into the LPGAS1 SS Ute and compete in the V8 Ute Racing Series, climbing to 8th place in the practice session. Race 1 would see Lillie struggle, finding it difficult to come to terms with the front end grip, resulting in 11th place. With more time behind the wheel in Race 2, Lillie managed to battle through the pack to finish up in 8th position, securing his place as 9th overall for the round. “For the first four laps, the left side of my body was cramped. “After doing the last GTP race and Race 2 of the Utes back-to-back, I was drinking and eating, trying to recover, but I started to cramp up.” Lillie explained. “Doing about 60 laps of racing and jumping from one car to another, because they are two very different beasts, was a good experience.”
