VE to become new Chevy SS?

Category: Rumour has it
Posted: 17.11.2009 07:40

Rumours are circulating the internet that the pontiac G8 might not be completely dead just yet, despite GM CEO Fritz Hernderson's assertions that there are no plans to keep the model alive.

Bob Lutz, a big proponent of the model, has been quoted as saying the G8 is, "Kinda too good to waste."

Regardless, one Autoblog reader posted this morning that when taking his G8 to the dealer for a repair, the email response from GM back to the dealer was quite interesting. Read the exerpt from Autoblog below:

"My dealer had sent off pictures to GM of the cable portion of the front seats belts rubbing against the plastic on the side of the front seats. In an email sent back to the dealer, GM says that they have no plans to solve what has already been built but going forward a correction is planned. The email continues: ...a fix is planned for MY11.5 Chevy Police Program and MY12 Chevy SS. The fix will involve a protective sleeve that covers the buckle and section of the buckle stem that rubs on the plastic trim."

According to Autoblog, this does more to confirm other independent rumours than merely cause slight salivation. Let's hope it's the case and that it'll mean more work for GM Holden and its suppliers.

Dyno Dynamics in administration?

Category: Rumour has it
Posted: 13.11.2009 08:32

We're hearing word filter through that dyno company Dyno Dynamics - supplier of the dynos for the iconic Horsepower Heroes competition at Summernats, among others - has been entered into voluntary administration.

According to an 'ASX RELEASE' received, dated November 10, parent company Allomak Group has decided that the dyno company is no longer part of its future strategy and has pulled funding.

Allomak has also announced that dividends announced in September will "not be paid for reasons including the fact that it is now apparent that the profit shown in the 30 June 2008 accounts cannot be supported."

More news as it happens.

F&F4 full of muscle?

Category: Rumour has it

To the producers of the next Fast and the Furious installment: Please, please and please, don’t screw this one up! Spotted on the set of the filming of the latest F&F4 set was this transporter loaded with some juicy old school American muscle cars including a Chevelle SS, a pair of Chargers and a Torino GT. Hell yeah!

Also floating around the WWW are pictures of Vin Diesel (yep, he’s baaaaaaack) with a Grand National and yet a different Chevelle again. Fingers crossed these don’t feature some sort of sadistic FWD naturally aspirated SR20 conversion and are the full, raw pushrod power old school lack of refinement that makes a muscle car great.

All this flick needs now is the absence of NOS stickers and they could well be onto a winner. God knows how they got Vin out of Japan to play the part in this one, we would have thought the American muscle car drifting scene in Japan would have been massive?

Could it really happen? GM and Ford merger

Category: Rumour has it
Posted: 27.06.2008 14:04

The two original bitter rivals, GM and Ford, have been at opposite ends of the ring since day one and to some people nothing will change, but to others it could well be opposite. Word has it that top GM suits had proposed a merger between the two rivals, one that was apparently shot down in flames before it was even considered.

Now it seems that the idea is being looked at around the industry as one that could very well happen in the future, to create one monolithic domestic manufacturer to tackle the runaway import sales.

But for now one can breathe a sigh of relief as it only took minutes to decapitate the mortal who suggested such a travesty and the two auto making giants still remain bitter enemies to the end. After all, what would become of the V8 Supercars if the two became one?

The Stig finally unmasked?

Category: Rumour has it

It looks as though the Stig mystery may have be finally uncovered thanks to a video recording of a white suited man holding a white helmet was spotted outside of a Top Gear test track.

The unmasked man was immediately recognized as Dutch ace driver Tim Schrick who was recently seen pedaling a Carrera GT at somewhere around mach 37. While this isn’t irrefutable proof as to the Stig’s true identity, and even in fact there is just one Stig, it’s good enough for me and until something else comes along. Who, after all, would walk around a Top Gear test track with Hammond, May and Jeremy on set while wearing a white race suit and helmet if it wasn’t for the ‘true’ Top Gear Stig?

GT5 giving the chance to race for real

Category: Rumour has it
Posted: 07.05.2008 14:53

How good is this, Sony is giving one lucky winner the chance to drive an actual race prepped Nissan 350Z in the next 24-hour race in Dubai. Pretty crazy stuff, but I believe that the competition is only open to Europeans which leaves us pretty much out of luck.

The whole plan is to run an 8 month online trial, going through race after race until they find the quickest mad man behind the wheel. Word on the street is that drivers will racing a special Playstation version of the GT-R to show off their talents, which will then take the winner on a four-month training course to earn real racing licenses which will ultimately put you behind the wheel of a 350Z in front a very real racing field.

Sheer brilliance of sheer stupidity, make up your own mind but we think that this could be one hell of a battle for the quickest online racer. Might have to start training now I think…
