AEROBR Stolen

Category: On The Street
Posted: 20.12.2007 13:19

As of yesterday morning the cover car from Street Commodores issue 52 has been stolen.
The car AEROBR was a genuine VS HDT Aero and featured amild 304 and T5 driveline combo with custom paint with graphics, custom trim which also had airbrushing, along with boot and dash, even the floor.
The car is extremely hard to miss, and most parts are customised for the car making useless for anybody wanting to offload any of the parts in peices.
Other features include 19 inch Lenso Speed six rims, HDT brake rotors and large Alpine/MTX stereo.

If anybody knows of the whereabouts of this ex-cover car, contact your local police department for email chris@streetcommodores.com

UK Police speed enforcer looses licence.

Speed limits and road safety have been hotly debated for many decades as being directly related to the road toll, despite many lobby groups protesting otherwise. On one hand you have the law makers drilling it into the motorists head that speed kills, and on the other hand the motorist believes the answer is through driver training. With mega bucks at stake here, it’s clear to see who the winner’s going to be but how much of the ‘Speed kills’ do the law makers actually believe in themselves?

It seems in the UK not much, with British top dog Police Chief Constable Meredydd Hughes loosing his licence for 42 days for exceeding the speed limit by 50km/h.

A UK lobby group called Safe Speed asked Mr Hughes, “Were you driving safely Mr Hughes? If you were, then you have been lying to us about the importance of sticking to the speed limit, we don’t believe for a single second that Mr Hughes was driving dangerously and he must now tell us the truth about the role of speed limits in road safety.”

More than 1/3 Aussies drink and drive

Category: On The Street

The national car insurer, AAMI released some research findings they carried out in relations to Australians and their drink driving history. While some would say the reports findings were shocking, I found them to be pretty much on the money. With a continual steady amount of drivers being pinged for drink driving, the AAMI report would have to show a reasonable percentage of drivers admitting to drink driving for the report to seem even half convincing.

Well, according to the AAMI research, 37 percent of Aussie drivers have admitted to driving whilst over the national legal limit of .05 and 15 percent have also admitted to taking a different route to avoid being breath tested.

With so much on stake for being detected drink driving, it still amazed to learn that the trend does not appear to end anytime soon despite increased numbers of RBT’s and fines and penalties.

The VE Commodore range has been voted number one by large car buyers using the Carsales.com.au website. Votes were tallied up from between November 2006 and October 2007 relating to readers preference.

Mike Sinclair, Carsales.com.au Editor in Chief, has said the VE Commodore was the clear run away from the pack.

“The Holden Commodore was the standout performer in the large car category, registering more than double the votes of its traditional large car competitors,” he said.

So far, the VE range has stuffed the following awards deep into it’s over flowing trophy cabinet.

• Winner: Drive COTY People’s Choice Awards 2007

Wodonga Autofest Cancelled

Category: On The Street
Posted: 12.12.2007 12:31

For Les Adams to cancel one of his events, you know it must be a pretty serious matter and it seems the local Wodonga council have intervened and forced the Autofest event to withdrawal its presence.

The Wodonga Autofest event was scheduled for the 23rd and 2224th of February, but has been cancelled indefinitely until a resolution can be made and a suitable local venue sourced. The entrant numbers were around the 174 mark at the time of the cancellation, meaning the event was tipped to have been a success if ran.

A full press release from Les Adams has been included below:

Wodonga
Autofest
Cancelled!

Regretfully we are informing you of the cancellation of the planned Wodonga Autofest that was to be held on February 23rd and 24th 2007.

After the Albury Event we were offered by the Wodonga City Council Three sites in which to grow our Event within the Wodonga region.
One was the Gateway Site between Albury / Wodonga Borders and the two others being the Tafe site and the Wodonga Racing Club site and after much deliberation the latter was chosen.
A press release written and sent out by the Wodonga City Council dated August 31st 2007 see attached, was sent to all media out lining this and noting that the Burnouts are a Major part of our planned Events.

Council in late November then decided that they were unaware of Burnouts taking place and all of a sudden decided that the road surface that they first offered was NOW not suitable for driving events such as Go To Whoa and Burnouts but agreed we should still run the Wodonga Autofest without these events.
As you would be aware, we are a driving event show so this left us NO alterative other than to make our decision not to go forth with the Wodonga Autofest.
It’s a real disappointment as competitor numbers were at 174 when we decided not to proceed and we Thank all those who entered, offered sponsorship and shown us support for this event but we could not continue as we felt you would be let down.

A FULL Refund for all MONIES Received will be returned by mail.

We hope other events have better LUCK in this Region

Regards Les Adams
