New driver, new cars and a new sponsor for HRT

Category: Motorsport
Posted: 30.01.2008 13:40

The end of the 2007 V8 Supercars series saw HRT do some deep soul searching to find a way to come up with more constant podium finishes heading into the 2008 calendar. The fresh new season will see the introduction of two new matching cars, a new driver and new major sponsor to help the once dominant racing team get back into the winners circle once again.

Welcoming aboard HRT are new naming rights sponsors Toll, a well known transport logistics company and the 2007 V8 Supercar Champion, Garth Tander.

Tander, who claims there is “no greater honour” than driving for the factory backed team, is ecstatic over the new move and is confident of a sound 2008 result.

“Each of us individually have our own goals and ambitions, both sporting and professional, but I’ve said all along that I was given that opportunity then I’d like to grab it,” Tander said.

“It’s just a fantastic opportunity that’s been presented to me. There’s obviously a lot of changes compared to what I’ve had over the past years but it’s an exciting opportunity for me to be going to the factory racing team as reigning champion, it’s a real opportunity for me to cement myself as one of Holden’s ambassadors in V8 Supercar racing.

Lutz: US to get the Crewman

Category: Holden News
Posted: 25.01.2008 13:00

It appears the US will be building a four door Ute based upon Holden’s Zeta rear-wheel drive platform to debut in late March. The Ute, will has been tipped to be based upon the Holden Crewman, will be modelled of the standard Ute with an increased wheelbase to accommodate the extra room needed behind the front doors, much like the original Crewman design

The Ute will be built by GMC, and Lutz states that if the vehicle proves popular enough with the public, then it can be sold locally rebadged as the new Holden Crewman.

Yokohama stays with V8 Utes for another 3 years

Category: Motorsport
Posted: 25.01.2008 10:32

The Australian V8 Racing Ute Series has managed to secure its primary sponsor, Yokohama, for a further three years. The tyre giant has been onboard with the series since 2005 and is keen to further increase the popularity of the fast growing Australian motorsport series.

“With television exposure grossing over 3 million viewers and almost a million spectators on track last year alone the V8 Utes are providing Yokohama with exceptional value for money brand exposure” explained Yokohama Motorsport Manager Christian Hansen “The growth of V8 Supercars and the 3 year deal with V8 Utes as a support category gives the series a great platform for the next 3 years.”

With the ADVAN name already hugely popular over seas, Australia is yet to catch on and the V8 Racing Ute series is where Yokohama first promoted the name Down Under.

“The Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series has been the main mechanism for promoting the name ADVAN within Australia” said Hansen “With ADVAN stickers on the corner of each racing Ute, combined with ADVAN flags on the grid and in the pits, the ADVAN brand has achieved a good level of awareness in a short period of time.”

“The V8 Utes have certainly given performance credibility to ADVAN road tyres which are designed for premium sports cars and high performance four wheel drives”
