F&F4 full of muscle?

Category: Rumour has it

To the producers of the next Fast and the Furious installment: Please, please and please, don’t screw this one up! Spotted on the set of the filming of the latest F&F4 set was this transporter loaded with some juicy old school American muscle cars including a Chevelle SS, a pair of Chargers and a Torino GT. Hell yeah!

Also floating around the WWW are pictures of Vin Diesel (yep, he’s baaaaaaack) with a Grand National and yet a different Chevelle again. Fingers crossed these don’t feature some sort of sadistic FWD naturally aspirated SR20 conversion and are the full, raw pushrod power old school lack of refinement that makes a muscle car great.

All this flick needs now is the absence of NOS stickers and they could well be onto a winner. God knows how they got Vin out of Japan to play the part in this one, we would have thought the American muscle car drifting scene in Japan would have been massive?

Queenslanders, watch those speedos!

Police Minister Judy Spence has a plan on the whiteboard to digitalise all of the state’s 34 red light cameras, enabling them to be used for speeding enforcement.

"Next year we are going to digitalise all of these cameras, which means that the red light cameras will also be speeding cameras," Ms Spence told ABC Radio.

"So people could be picked up for both going through the red light and speeding as well.”

Beating the old ‘Speed Kills’ drum to within an inch of it’s life, Ms Spence also went on to say "We are going down this path because we know that speeding is one of the greatest causes of traffic crashes. Going through red lights is a very dangerous thing to do, there's nothing more dangerous than that."

Incredibly, not one statistic was bought up to defend the decision to implement more cameras which will no doubt thrill QLD motorists everywhere.

Corvette blasts around the ‘Ring

Category: GM News
Posted: 30.06.2008 23:02, Edited: 30.06.2008 09:02

GM had said the new ZR-1 will take out the GTR as being number one around the Nurburgring and now the figures have come out, blasting across the finish line the ZR-1 has managed a 7:26.4 compared to the GTR’s 7:29.

No doubt the GTR has been in the spot light for some time now as being the technological masterpiece that it is, and to some people the ZR-1’s stealth approach has caught the motoring world by storm considering some preliminary performance figures released last month showed the ZR-1 capable of trapping well over 130MPH during a 400m pass.

Still using a conventional H-pattern gear selector rather than the GTR’s high-tech paddles, the ZR-1 has shaved three seconds of the record setting time around the world renowned testing track and has raised a few eyebrows in the process and no doubt made a few enemies in the process.

The car used for the track testing was 100% factory, right down to the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres and tank load of regular pump fuel. The lap was also recorded as per industry practice using a rolling start, electronic timing and two backup stop watches. The full video will be available on line sometime in the up and coming week.

Could it really happen? GM and Ford merger

Category: Rumour has it
Posted: 28.06.2008 04:04, Edited: 27.06.2008 14:04

The two original bitter rivals, GM and Ford, have been at opposite ends of the ring since day one and to some people nothing will change, but to others it could well be opposite. Word has it that top GM suits had proposed a merger between the two rivals, one that was apparently shot down in flames before it was even considered.

Now it seems that the idea is being looked at around the industry as one that could very well happen in the future, to create one monolithic domestic manufacturer to tackle the runaway import sales.

But for now one can breathe a sigh of relief as it only took minutes to decapitate the mortal who suggested such a travesty and the two auto making giants still remain bitter enemies to the end. After all, what would become of the V8 Supercars if the two became one?

Oil breaks $US140 a barrel

Category: Misc
Posted: 27.06.2008 23:18, Edited: 27.06.2008 09:18

More bad news on the petrol front with the price of crude rocketing upwards and smashing the dreaded $US140 per barrel today with more predictions tipping this could rise to $US170 by the end of the year.
The price spike had seen the highest price for crude oil in history creating even further strain on the US dollar and creating increased geopolitical unrest.

“Four week average gasoline demand is 2.1 per cent down from a year ago; this goes to show more and more people are reacting to high oil prices," said Nimit Khamar of the Sucden brokerage.

Australia’s love affair with the V8 still appears to be surviving strong despite even more glooming reports of price hikes and even some drivers have purchased a cheaper ‘daily’ commuter leaving the 8-potter for weekend powerskid duties.
