STREET COMMODORES TRUE ENTHUSIAST

29-year-old Cameron Smith has been a regular on the Sydney car show scene for years. We here at Street Commodores have gotten quite used to seeing his smiling face when out and about – and we've come to know his immaculate 1997 series-II VS sedan as well.

Cameron has been building his VS since he first bought it 12 years ago, having lusted after one when his parents bought a brand new VS back in 1997. Cameron was only 11 at the time, but it ignited a fire that continues to burn today. "In High School, I used to read Street Commodores and get ideas on what I wanted to do to my own when I got one," he says. "I have grown a big passion for Commodores and try to keep up to date with the latest info on them." In fact, he's been an avid reader of Street Commodores since 2000!

As you can see from the photos, Cameron's VS is super clean, with a neat SS body kit and SSV wheels on the outside, coupled with a really neat custom interior job and purposeful boot install that still leaves room for the camping gear or deck chair when going to shows. Under the bonnet, things are pretty stock, mechanically, but Cameron still has plans for that area.

"I would like to get under the bonnet finished one day," he says. "I would like to smooth the engine bay, hide the wiring, move the fuses, relocate the battery and either bolt on a supercharger or find a decent VS 5L motor. I will get there one day with it, no rush, as I am not parting with it any time soon."

"It took eight months to find this particular 2000 model VX wagon. It’s a compromise considering I was originally looking for a ute, but the missus agreed that as we were looking at having kids, she’d prefer a wagon. My only input was that it had to a have a 5.7L and 6-speed, although not a sedan for something a bit different.":
